The competition begins on Monday, June 1, 2021! Make sure you manually log your steps at the end of each day or week or connect your device and your steps will be tracked automatically.

Here’s your team action plan to reach the 1,000,000 steps!

  • As a team, talk about your own personal goals for this virtual challenge and do a quick calculation to decide steps per day per person. Remember that this number may be different for each member of your team.

  • As a team, challenge one another to be creative in getting more steps in during the day. Schedule some time during the week to check-in and do an activity with your team over Zoom, Google Meets, or other video/audio platform to get your steps in.

  • After walking, exercising, or doing other activities, log your steps. If you don't want to log them manually, connect a device, and your steps will be tracked automatically. A tracking device or app will track your steps regardless of your speed, so move at your own pace.

  • Congratulate your teammates for stepping up, and encourage one another along the way!

Here are some creative ways to get more steps in while telecommuting:

  • Walk around outside during phone calls

  • Get outside and take a walk during your break

  • Instead of sitting down during a meeting, stand up and walk in place

  • Get up earlier and take a morning walk, or take an evening walk

  • On non-work days, aim for longer walks or other types of physical activity

  • Track “steps” for non-walking activities like riding a bike, playing a sport, or moving around the house
